Katy Homeschool Classes has a great line-up of classes planned for Summer 2008!  Read our schedule below or CLICK HERE for a printable schedule.  To enroll in any of our classes simply print up the registration forms and return with tuition payment to The Curious Mind Homeschool Store.  Forms are also available from the store during business hours. 

NOTE: Our summer classes are open to everyone-- not just homeschoolers!

Teaching science and writing can be a daunting task when you haven't been in a classroom for over a decade!  These classes will review the basics and show you interesting activities that will enable you to teach your children more successfully!

Chemical Reactions (Level 1)

5-7 7/24 10-noon $15 Students will become familiar with lab equipment (test tubes, beakers, safety goggles, etc) as they combine chemicals and observe reactions that bubble, glow, change color/temp, and even explode!

Rocks and Minerals (Level 1) 5-7 6/19 10-noon $15 Students will use a variety of tests to identify 10 commons minerals.  Then, they'll learn how minerals form igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks and how these rocks change over time.

Healthy Me!  Nutrition Class 5-7 6/24, 6/26 10:00-12:30 $35 A fun 5 hour nutrition class teaching kids to recognize and make healthy food choices.  Turn "I don't like that" into "I'll try it!"
 
CSI Forensic Science (includes a 45 minute lunch/recess break)
Case of the Lost Skull 11+

10-3pm $40 Analyzing taped-off crime scenes,  dusting for fingerprints, interviewing and fingerprinting suspects, fiber/hair/blood analysis, and more.  A fascinating way to explore the world of forensic science!

Theater Arts Camp
Theater Arts A 7-9 6/16-6/20 10-noon $95 A great introduction to theater arts!  Students will spend the week practicing their dramatic skills then perform for parents on Friday.  Level A will perform at the Gazebo in Thomas Park on Friday 6/20 at 11:30.  Level B and C will perform at 6/6 at La Quinta Inn-- Level B at 11 am (dress rehearsal at 10) and Level C at 1:30 (dress rehearsal at 12:30)

12:30-1:30 $40 Students will practice their visual art skills and explore a variety of media during these 3 week art classes.  2 sessions are available with different projects each session.

10-noon $25 A two week course introducing expository writing.  Students will learn to organize/write basic & expanded paragraphs with strong topic sentences and supporting details.

Writing Research Reports A 9-11

6/24, 7/1, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29

10-noon $70 A 5 week course walking students through the steps of creating a research report.  Day 1 will be at Katy Library on Franz road.  On Day 5 students will present their reports to an audience of students and parents.  Pre-requisite: Intro to Writing Paragraphs or equivalent knowledge.

2008 Bridge Building Challenge (each class day includes a 30 minute break/recess)
Bridge Building Level 1 5-7

8/4,8/5, 8/6 plus optional contest 8/8

10-12 $80 Our 2007 Bridge-Building challenge was a great success!  The winning team (two 10 year old girls) built a bridge that supported nearly 100 pounds!  Are you up to the challenge?  Students will learn the principles behind truss bridges, then, armed with just 100 popsicle sticks and white glue, they will spend three days creating their own truss bridges with the option of competing on Friday for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophy!
