Homeschool Classes

Homeschool families love our classes!   We offer over 50 classes for students in preschool through 11th grade, and in our 20+ years of homeschooling, we’ve learned to create successful classes that combine the 5 elements described below.    New students are accepted year round.

1.  ACADEMICS

Let's face it-- Some subjects can be difficult to teach at home!  Perhaps you don't feel confident teaching your young teen how to write a 5 paragraph theme,  or you don't have the lab equipment necessary to teach science.  Maybe you've simply found that your child is more willing to do his best when he's surrounded by his peers or accountable to adults other than Mom and Dad.  Whatever the reason, when you enroll your children in The Curious Mind homeschool classes, you know they are receiving great instruction and have access to all the supplies and equipment they need to be successful.

2.  SOCIALIZATION

In our 20 years of homeschooling, one of the greatest lessons we've learned is that friendships are just as important as academics.  Yes, your children meet other homeschoolers at support group get-togethers, but we've observed that the strongest friendships are formed through the frequent and regular interaction that our homeschool classes provide.  Here is where best friends are found!  Our classes are designed with socialization in mind, and we make sure that students have plenty of time to talk and enjoy each other's company in the classroom and at breaks and recess.

3.  DISCIPLINE

At the Curious Mind, we love homeschooling and have experienced the joys of teaching children one-on-one at home.  But, we also know that children need practice working in a group environment.  Our classes are a friendly and gentle way for home schooling students to learn classroom discipline.  Our younger students learn to raise their hand, speak in turn, work on a schedule, and be accountable to an adult other than their parents.  The older students learn to complete homework assignments on a deadline, study for tests, take notes, and complete projects.  The discipline of a classroom once or twice a week combined with the relaxed atmosphere of home education creates a winning combination!

4.  FUN

At The Curious Mind, we know that kids learn best when they're having FUN!  Our classes alternate between periods of traditional seatwork and out-of-their-desk activities.  Whether they're on the floor brainstorming our newest writing assignment, engaging in a hands-on science project, or laughing over an educational game, your children will have a great time learning!

5.  DIVERSITY

The Curious Mind homeschooling classes are inclusive, and we welcome students of all religious, political, and ethnic backgrounds.  The curriculum is non-religious, and we strive to make everyone feel welcome.  Parents tell us they appreciate the diversity found in our classes, and their children are learning tolerance and respect for people who may be different from the kids they usually encounter in their neighborhoods and homeschool support groups.
